1: Moderation & investigations require access
In certain situations (harassment, threats, exploitation, rule-breaking coordination), staff must be able to review private or group messages to properly investigate reports and protect players.
2: Access is controlled, not abused
Staff access is governed by internal rules and accountability. Any misuse of this ability is handled as a serious staff violation, rather than removing a necessary tool for everyone.
3: Operational efficiency
Limiting this ability only to the owner or OM would significantly slow down investigations and responses, especially when immediate action is required.
4: Player safety comes first
This feature exists to prevent abuse happening behind closed doors. Removing it would make it easier for rule-breakers to avoid detection.
5:Trust in the staff system
Staff are selected and trained to act professionally and are held to internal standards.
If there is a concern that a staff member is misusing their authority, it should be reported directly to management so it can be properly reviewed and handled, rather than removing core moderation capabilities for all staff.
Big -1
1: if a player is being harrased he can either /ignore or report in forums.
2: you know it's almost impossible to prove with evidence when a staff member is reading private messages to abuse, even if the player in question is sure that is happening.
3: you don't need to be able to read private messages to punish players or keep the server clean from cheaters, ¿when was the last time an investigation was required to punish a player for "talking" in a private message or for "conspiracy" against the server?.
4: what do you mean by abuse? Like player A saying to player B: Hey man, let's break some mcnr rules (that doesn't happen, and if you catch a player breaking rules you can just punish him without reading their chats.)
5: staff team has been proven to be abusive (with some exceptions) and let's not talk about giving staff role to previously banned hackers.
