Guy who reset the whole server for no apparent reason
The this that is apparant is that you can't read or don't know how to (or are too lazy to) find information.
This topic clearly explains (yet without technical details) about why the reset happened, if you care to read it:
https://mikescnr.com/tgrI will state this all for the billionth time like I did on Discord but in a place where it won't get buried as easily:
GTA SA is designed to run at 25 FPS on the PS2. It was badly ported to PC. A lot of the logic and physics are FPS-based.
High FPS breaks many things. Some give you advantages. Some of the things that get broken the higher your FPS is include but are not limited to:
- Slower swimming/boat speed
- Helicopters start up faster
- Can't take off in a Skimmer
- Potential to shoot/reload/animate at a faster rate (but only at very high FPS)
- Can push cars on foot more easily, like they weigh nothing
- Vehicle sirens can't be toggled as easily (pretty much impossible at extremely high fps)
- I believe vehicle vs player damage (ramming) is affected, however this is handled by the script anyway, so is irrelevant
The reason an FPS cap was introduced was to ensure players can't exploit it for an advantage.
I originally wanted to set the FPS cap at 60 - even at that framerate bugs and advantages occur. I then backed down and settled for allowing 120 fps - it is set to 130 to allow a margin for error.
I know the increase from 130 to 144 is only 14, however it's actually 120 to 144 we're talking about (a 24fps increase), as the intended limit is 120 not 130.
I honestly do not think most players will notice a difference above 60fps. I
REALLY don't think anyone will notice a 14 or even 24 fps increase. If your game is choppy at 120fps you have other problems. You need to tweak your graphics/display/both settings. VSync exists for a reason.
The more people complain about the FPS cap, the more I want to lower it.
If I had it set at 30 or even < 60, I could understand the complaint, but honestly I would love to prove you wrong that you can notice a significant difference between 130 and 144.
That all being said, I try to be fair, I try to listen to feedback, so I will.
I will create a poll on Discord for this. If, after a week, there is over 80% of votes in favour of it, I will concded and increase the limit to 145 (1 fps margin of error for 144fps).
That being said, it will still remain subject to change in the future.
If there's over 70% of votes in favour, I will consider further.
