It's annoying to see people change their nicknames all the time (at least for me). However, I know a server where this system is implemented. There is an automated list of players getting their nicknames changed on their forum(using a shortener so as not to advertise):

When a player changes their name it's usually to have a "clean" slate to a degree. If they want you to know who they were they can tell you, I personally feel we should respect this privacy.
