Since MCNR is not a DM Server, nor does it plan to be, there are some required implementation to counter Random DM, and to bring justice to people that are randomly attacked/killed for no reason. There are currently many issues that come with the "no RDM" rule, such as:
1- Suspects getting RDM'd and spawning in jail (when there's a cop nearby) and losing their weapons
2- Losing up to $5k in medical fees over RDM, as well as having to buy armor/repair your car etc..
3- Civilians getting a wanted level over Self Defense against RDM
There are also features that contribute to the unfairness of these points; such as:
-Ammo decreasing when your weapons are confiscated (point 1 & 3) costing you a lot of cash over RDM.
However I might cover most of these topics in another suggestion. This suggestion will only be about Point 3. Civilians should not be given a wanted level over self defense against RDM.
Why:
- Obviously the civilian was not trying to DM, and does not want to go to jail over a rulebreaker.
- Even orange suspects that might be robbing safes/clerks etc.. Could be RDM'd and they would have to fight back, giving them MW status which cannot be bribed off. They would have to spend up to 10 minutes evading cops to get a bribe option again.
- Civilians could be doing legal jobs (/missions, /fishing) and gain a wanted level over the RDM'er, which forces them to either go to jail, or fight off cops until they die; preventing them from doing what they wanted to do.
Misinterpretations:
Some people might misunderstand the suggestion. I will address all the things I think people might say, and try to provide answers for these comments so people don't downvote this for silly reasons:
- What if the DM'er was simply taking a revenge kill, why would we refund it?
Revenge kills are not Random Deathmatch, and should not be refunded in any way, they aren't against the rules. This suggestion is for RDM which is against the rules.
- You can just /report the RDM'er.
Reporting the RDM'er currently only gets them punished/warned. It will not remove your wanted level.
- What if I didn't mean to RDM/ram someone etc..
That's like saying "what if I didn't mean to call someone a slur?" A rule is a rule and you should focus on not breaking it, and the person that attacks you back is still acting in self defense.
Issues with this suggestion:
There are some real issues that might stem from such an implementation, and I will try to address all those that I can think of:
- Orange/Red suspects already have a wanted level, and resetting their wanted level after self defense does not really make sense
- Validating RDM already takes a lot of effort, to make sure it wasn't a revenge kill and such. This implementation will lead to more effort by the staff team, having to check the player's wanted level before the RDM, and having to manually set it back.
The main issue with this implementation can be summarized by "Too much effort on the staff team" due to the fact that the majority of infractions on the server is about RDM, and not wanting to force this type of effort on the staff team is completely understandable, perhaps there is a way to automate the process after warning someone for RDM, but that's still too complex.
Notes:
- Chasing someone after they accidentally damage you just to kill them is NOT self defense.
+ Self defense is a last resort when your life feels threatened by another player, and should only be within 1-2 minutes.
- I'm unsure if attacking someone who simply "aims at you" should be considered self defense as well, but I don't believe it should be.
- There are many other changes that would have to be done if this suggestion is to be implemented, but it would take too long to address all of them, I believe the staff team will know what to do if this suggestion is accepted.
--------------------------------------------------------
I believe you guys should read everything I wrote because it's a really useful suggestion, and I hope all the comments will be addressing real issues that might prevent this implementation so we can work on other ways to apply this suggestion, as well as addressing the positives of this suggestion as it will prevent rulebreakers from ruining everyone's fun.
